Hahaha. Brilliant.
Axe cop cries MANLY TEARS.
Holy Crap I love this one. It *was* a sad story.
At least it was a learning experience for everybody in the end.
On the plus side, you could have made, like, a hundred fish tacos from the body. I think this a gray area for cannibalism.
Only one other comic strip has ever made me closer to crying. it was Calvin & Hobbes.
This is actually quite deep. Now I’m gonna cry in the corner
But this is Axe Cop! Surely SOMETHING can bring that mermaid back to life!
Oh how I wish you could hear the gales of laughter I am producing right now!
A lesson in xenophobia from Axe Cop!
Maybe children should run the world.
Maybe Uni-Man can make a wish that the mermaid will come back to life!
It takes a real man to admit a mistake. And to cry.
If only mermaids could do front kicks…
you are *brilliant*. and by you, i mean both malachai and ethan. thank you for making me laugh out loud on an almost daily basis.
I feel like this memory has haunted Axe Cop for a long time. Like he flashes back to it while he lies in bed (on vacation because he usually doesn’t sleep). Maybe this is why he can’t sleep. That and the nagging feeling that there are bad guys with unpunched faces.
Poor Axe Cop…
He didn’t know…
Actually, it feels good to know that even Axe Cop can make mistakes. It makes him appear more human. I don’t know how, but it appears that the comic has suddenly started to get a lot deeper since Malachai’s birthday. He’s older and wiser.
Aww, poor Axe Cop. And poor mermaids. Love the last panel. It’s just cliche enough to make a point while also being genuinely touching.
technically Malachai wrote this while he was still 5, he was just 6 the day it was published. He answered the question last week.
Wow. I`m sure Axe Cop has found a way to make it up to the mermaids. But will he ever make it up to himself?
Dude, this is powerful stuff.
On the bright side, now we can cure cancer!
WoW… you’d be surprised how many “grown-ups” and “professionals” also get this one wrong. One the surface this could seem a bit silly… but there is an underlying severity to the message.
Hed’asplodin? ... not quite, but close enough.
... inter-cultural communication is tough.
Excuse me, I… I think I have something in my eye…
Heavy.
Who would have thought that a child would be capable of writing a sad ending?
*sniff* Poor mermaids. Unable to prove their goodness with front kicks.
This is pretty amazing, by the way.
