That’s ... disturbing.
Wait, why would they have to remarry if their baby died? That’s really sad. Baby death = not cool, Malachi. Just, not cool. Eating babies = funny but disturbing.
I love the pure, surreal insanity of AxeCop’s world. Malachi is a genius.
lol, Malachi’s understanding of parenthood is hilarious. XD This, coupled with the “sometimes parents have to send their babies back in time” with no reason has a sort of brilliance to it.
As I mentioned in the podcast, Malachai actually had two alternate endings… the one above where the night monster babies die and the parents must remarry to have new babies, then in the other version they “melt back to normal” which is a happier ending. When Malachai gives me alternate plot points I pick one… so I went with the darker one. So you can sort of blame me for that one.
Bad Ethan! Bad, bad Ethan. Giving me the funnier, more surreal, the parents would have to re-marry ending. I love little kid logic.
I would hate to have to make the kind of moral choices Axe Cop does, but that is why he is Axe Cop.
To be honest, I like the alternate ending you mentioned. It’s more in tone with the kind of comic Axe Cop is. This one is just seriously dark, like the time the poop monsters stabbed the people who pooped them out, instantly wiping out 1/10 of England’s population.
Please don’t let it get too dark, I like Axe Cop just the way it is.
Why would the parents need to re-marry? Aren’t they already married? And who would they re-marry?
Oh, I know.
Axe-Cop
They would have to re-marry, because you have a baby when you get married. That’s the Christian value kid logic at work. Correct me if I’m wrong here Ethan.
Axe Cop!
(oooh-aah-aaaah!)
Fighter of the Night-Monster!
(oooh-aah-aaaah!)
Champion of the sun!
You’re a master of chop-ra-te
And friendship
To everyone!
What you guys seem to be missing is that both endings were happy endings to Malachai. The parents getting new babies to replace the old ones was not a sad dark idea to him, it was matter-of-fact. And as for them remarrying, for all I know he probably meant the same to people got married again. Malachai doesn’t know how babies are made, so he must think the baby is produced by the marriage somehow. I think you’re reading into it wwwaaaaayyyy more than he is.
All I think is baby dead, sad. Parents split, sad. I read WAY too into anything. Don’t take it to heart.
Hey, if it was good enough for God to just give Job new kids after all of the torment inflicted upon him, it must be a happy ending.
Dare you disagree with the absolute who knows the best way to tell a story? Where you there at the start of the universe when He INVENTED stories? Don’t think so!
I I find a lot of humor in that face that Malachai created a very sad situation when he is trying to make a happy ending.
His alternate ending I think he was becoming a little more self aware that it was sad, but the ending in the story was the one he came up with in the hear of telling the story and it just seemed to be more organic and I liked the logic that parents need to remarry.
And yet nobody mentions that Malachai apparently knows what breasts are?
Its just a let down. Minor characters like random towns people seem a lot more real than main characters in axecop because they aren’t as ridiculous. I’d rather see a main guy go down than some babies, it seems like bullying. That’s how kids are, the game of “I win.” Axecop probably means more to Malachi than some random silly babies but I’m older and I’ve seen sad things and babies dying reminds me of that. Sorry to get heavy but this one just got too real for me.
@Citrus Fruit
I am pretty sure I knew what breasts were at 6 years old, between my “human body” books and TV
I think breasts are one of the first things a baby learns about, unless they were bottle fed.
Some people think they see breasts on Bigfoot in that one video. Monsters just have breasts sometimes. It’s one letter away from ‘beast’ after all.
Ethan I totally get what you’re saying about the humour of a little ‘un coming up with what s/he thinks is a happy, sensible story, but which to anyone older is dark and creepy.
Guys the entire Axe Cop universe is built around that logic! This is just one instance of that - a darker instance when us old kids read into it, but this is why this comic is so utterly unique. Here we get story lines and characters and skateboard-riding Night Monsters completely free of any morals beyond the simple what-the-good-guy-does-is-alllll-good theme. Let’s try not to spoil that by putting our own values on it too much, eh?
Axe Cop in catsuit but no Wexter in full cat suit?!!?
I feel cheated….
If you’d actually been reading Axe Cop, you’d know that inadvertent ultra-dark moments are a staple of the comic!
It was a sad story.
But a happy one too!
Bravo for this year’s super-orange Halloween special. :D
ok, so as someone with a brother just a bit older than Malachai, I understand where his logic comes from, and I find it quite humorous. I love these random dark endings that he seems to unknowingly throw into Axe Cop on occasion
Also, I love how “so he chopped it off” seems to be the simplest solution to getting the night monster to melt. genius
