(Okay, going to do my very best to keep this discussion thread family friendly.  I think it’s do-able, but if lines get crossed, feel free to smack the thread back into shape!  ALSO! Spoilers warning for this entire thread.)

I’ve been reading the comics for several years now, so of course when I heard AMC was going to do a series, I crapped in my pants.  The number one reason I went to San Diego Comic Con (other than it being, you know, San Diego Comic Con) was to see something, anything on The Walking Dead.  The panel exceeded my expectations, the trailer gave me goosebumps of joy, and I have been waiting with baited breath for this magic to be all over my television.

The wait was worth it, my friends.

Did anyone else watch the premiere Halloween night?  What were your thoughts?  Mine are pretty obvious, I think!  Bicycle Girl zombie special effects were just incredible.  All the effects were great, really, but she totally blew me away.

I found it really interesting that they’re playing Lori pretty much exactly the same as she was in the comic, but they’re really doing a lot more to flesh out Shane.  I have a feeling Shane will end up playing a much larger and longer role in the TV series than he did in the comic.  I only saw what, ten minutes of Lori in the tv show?  Already I can’t wait for her to be offed.  Can’t. Wait.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to watch the first episode, though hopefully it’ll be on demand, so I can watch it when I go home this weekend.

Excellent show is excellent. So far at least, but it looks like it won’t disappoint.

The only flaw I have is that as soon as they drew their guns at the beginning I knew exactly how this was going to start, thanks to 28 Days Later. Not a bad thing, but whatever.

Loved the ending though.

Wait wait!  Have you not read the comics?

My only complaint about the TV series thus far is the double opening.  I felt it really wasn’t necessary and didn’t add anything, unless, perhaps, you are someone who is unfamiliar with the comic.  SO! I am very curious to hear opinions of people who have not read the comics!

Also Glenn and Andrea are totally going to be in the next episode.  I LOVE GLENN AND ANDREA!  They’re probably my favorite characters in the whole series.  I am super duper hoping that they will stay as awesome in the TV series as they are in the comics.

I loved the premier.  WD is the only current series I keep up on.  I think they did the double opening because the book opens just like 28 days later.

I’ve read most the series and watch the first episode. I really enjoyed the show, I’ll be watching it every week. At least I’ll try to.

Okay, I JUST watched, like not but two minutes ago just, it…and I gotta say I love left for de….I mean dead risi….I mean zombiela….I mean Shawn of the d….I mean the walking dead.

blahblahsecondopeningwasweirdandunnecessarybuteveryoneandtheirgrandmotherhasalreadysaidthatsowhhhhhaaaaaaatttttteeeeeeeevvvvvvvvaaaaaa….

but yeah, all joking aside, this is definetly going on my ‘must watch’ list.

And before I continue, I have to say that I haven’t read the comic, but…does it ever explain why the zombies didn’t attack the main character while he was in a coma, or is that a moot point?

Edit: Also, off topic, I believe that if a zombie apocalypse were to happen, than I believe that hobos would be completely unharmed.

Maaaaaaybe.

In one of the earliest issues (right after Glenn and Rick are in the city together) they experimentally rub zombie corpses on themselves to hide their scent.  Then they kind of stumbled around.  I think it sort-of-kind-of worked for awhile, but they were puking from the stench.  I don’t remember it making a reappearance in the comic.  Other comic readers, can you chime in here?

Considering Rick went a few weeks without any sort of hygienic care…perhaps he was stinkin’ just right?  In the comic all the zombies are pretty well locked up (such as in the TV show).  Plus in the TV show it clearly shows that Rick’s door was closed and blocked by a gurney.  So I take that to be why he was never attacked.  Zombies just weren’t really around in that area.

Or, you know, it just kinda worked out that way so we could have this delightful series.

In the book all the zombies in the Hospital were locked in the cafe if I’m not mistaken.

Also I don’t recall the “lets rub zombies all over ourselves” ever happening a second time.

Spoiler Alert (if you haven’t read the book, and even though the TV series will probably be different)

There is a character who walked around with zombies on a chain and the smell of them kept the other zombies away for the most part. It’s kinda along the same monorail of thought.

SPOILER ALERT

Last night’s episode: Whee! Fingerpainting with zombie innards!

FAIR WARNING: Spoilers in this post!

Also, if it’s at all possible, I may actually hate the show version of Lori more than I hated the comic version!  At least in the comic she kind of resisted Shane’s, er, interests in the woods.  In the show she was just all about it.  UGH.  I WANT LORI’S HEAD CHOPPED OFF STAT.

But clearly this won’t happen so they can follow the SPOILER who’s the baby daddy/END SPOILER storyline.  Which was always kind of a stupid annoying one for me but whatever.  I am convinced that they SPOILER won’t kill off Shane as quickly in the TV show and he’ll make it through to at least the end of the first season/END SPOILER.

Glenn was every bit as awesome as I had hoped he would be.  I am so super pumped for Glenn being awesome, you guys.  SO. SUPER. PUMPED.  He is my favoritest.

Andrea is kinda blah so far, but to be fair, she wasn’t rad at the beginning of the comic, either.
