I am making this thread to provide a centralized place for comments and stuff about the website itself and its various elements. This is not a place for storyline suggestions (which are pointless anyways, since you are not Malachai and therefore your argument is invalid).

So far:
- Viewing the comics on the mainpage is currently awkward, and the mainpage is generally cluttered. (As I understand, this is currently being addressed. Patience Head Choppers.)
- These particular smileys are unpopular. raspberry

Perhaps if you have constructive suggestions for Ethan and Anthony you could put them here. Remember these guys are new at this, and it’s Crazy Town in here!!

Smiley fail. You have to use a lower case p, haha.

I agree about the clutter, though it is being addressed possibly.

Other wise, as I said in that other thread, keep on keepin’ on.

i really could care less about the smileys.  sorry.  when i think about axe cop, the smileys available on the forum page are about the last thing that i think of.  and i think the page layout works great.  as long as you know to click on the comic to get the “full size” version of it.  and i think it is great that i can click on all the links right up top to take me to the blog, ask axe cop, forum etc.  i did have a question though:  i was wondering approximately how many questions are submitted for ask axe cop, and how they are chosen.  i’m still crossing my fingers to get one of mine answered one of these days!  (see that smiley thing isn’t so bad)

Oh, I know the smilies aren’t all that important, I just don’t really care for them.

I just want to suggest more categories for the forum. It feels so empty with only two categories. Plus, eventually it’s going to be cluttered and unorganized IMO.

Would you like to go one step further and speculate on what these categorical divisions might be?

Perhaps this thread could be it’s own category. After some time, it’ll be easier to look through a forum for a suggestion, comment, complaint, etc., instead of going through page after page in a thread to find what your looking for. Plus, it’ll give the Site Developer People a place to announce any changes to the site without re-editing the thread a hundred dozen times.

I agree, it’s just that site changes are usually announced in Ethan’s blog on the main page, unless he changes that eventually.

I agree with the expansion of forums, and I was going to say it, I just couldn’t think of what other ones to add other than this.

Well, on my forums that I host (It’s just a general simple chat forum btw), we have categories like General Discussion, Real-World Conversations, Blogs, Poll-Land (a place for polls), Fan-Fiction (lol), Introductions, Fan-Art, Entertainment (then it has its own sub categories as well), then JUNK (a place for spam-worthy threads).

Those sound great. Now we just need some traffic, because it’s slow enough as it is with only 2 forums.

Glad somebody made a thread like this. I’ve had a few comments and suggestions I’ve been wanting to make for a while, but was afraid of how a big list of what I would like to see would come off as. I’ve had at least four or five different things swirling around in my head, although I can only remember three of them, so for now I’ll just post those.

Firstly, and most simply, I just wanted to bring up the max size for avatars. Currently the max size is 50KB, with the max dimensions being 100x100. I personally think the dimension size is perfect, sometimes avatars much smaller than that can be kind of hard to make out, and I’ve always found big avatars to be kind of obnoxious. Although the max size of the file does seem kind of small. I completely understand on trying to save server space and bandwidth, and normally most image files at 100x100 aren’t much bigger than that. But it would be pretty neat if we could have GIF images. That type of image is currently acceptable, but most animated GIF’s are usually bigger. For example those GIF images that were posted a few days ago from the Axe Cop fan game I think would make some AWESOME avatars, but I remember one was over 100KB and the other was over 300KB. So I think 500KB would be a pretty good average size. Or better yet- it would be great if we were able to link the avatars rather than upload them. It would be less stress on the servers, and we wouldn’t have to worry about size restrictions. Again though, if that option isn’t available, and raising the allowed size is too much stress than it’s no big deal.

Secondly, I wanted to bring up this-

I just want to suggest more categories for the forum. It feels so empty with only two categories. Plus, eventually it’s going to be cluttered and unorganized IMO.

I think this is definitely a good idea, although I don’t know about the sub-forums he did list. I’ve been to other forums with ones pretty similar to those, and honestly I ended up leaving those because all of the threads in those just ended up feeling redundant, and just a little TOO general. Also, I don’t know how good Fan-Fic would be for Axe Cop, some people go wild on these things and unfortunately they are almost prone to getting a little more than PG. On the forums I’m currently active on the layout typically goes something like this across them.

Axe Cop Chat (or whatever the forum is centered around)- Usually used for talking about EVERYTHING related to whatever has to do with the main content of the website, including fan art and all of that.

Suggestions board- Since Malachi is already the head writer here, and Axe Cop really wouldn’t be the same with interjections, this would probably be a board used mostly for website/forum suggestions. (Kind of like what this thread is intended for.)

General Discussion- Used for talking about current events, or anything news related, or just having a simple discussion about anything that may not fit into the other boards.

Then the rest is usually just a board for various types of media. Like a board for movies, one of video games, one for music, one for web comics, and maybe one for videos on the internet or something of the like. Lastly there’s usually a “rules free” type of board, where everyone can just kind of post whatever without having to worry about the content. Usually also posted here are personal threads (ie maybe stories, or blogish types of posts), and anything that doesn’t really fit into any of the other boards. I really think this type of layout for sub-forums works the best, also more variety in the boards is a good way to get more people interested, and getting more guests to want to register.

Finally, I want to bring up the ranking system. They always make forums fun, and getting badges opposed to stars or something is pretty neat, but I feel like it’s time to scrap the generic titles. (Newbie, Jr. Member, Sr. Member, etc.) Those are the base, and so many other places I go to have them just because no one has changed them yet. It would be really neat to have more Axe Cop orientated rankings. Maybe something like this-

0 posts - 1 badge: Bad Guy

100 posts - 2 badges: Junior Cop

300 posts - 3 badges: Ben-Mantanga

500 posts - 4 badges: Uni-Person

1,000 posts - 5 badges: Moon Warrior

10,000 posts - 6 badges: Head Chopper

Something like that, I just came up with that off the top of my head. I’m sure Ethan could probably think of some cool ones. And as for the posts- that’s just how the forums I go to do it. Although this board is currently a lot smaller than most other boards I post on, so lowering each amount by a little bit may be a good idea.

That’s it for now, if I think of anything else I might pop back in here later. Sorry if this post was longer than it had to be, but eh, food for thought I guess.

The problem wit Axe Cop based titles is that the comic is constantly changing. For all we know, the Moon Warriors could end up being bad. Malachi’s mind does not support continuity if another idea seems fit. Besides, maybe I like being a Sr. Member :( Makes me feel special for posting so much.

Once the forums get crowded (which, eventually, they will), we will need moderators of sorts. Actually, I think we need rules, or at least something that states whatever rules there are (are there any currently?).

Long post is long. I read it all anyway. Yes yes yes, I am up for ALL of those suggestions you made. The ranks are a good idea. I’m afraid it might make people spam the board like crazy just to get a rank though. BUT, that’s what you have mods for!

On the main page, a few thoughts:

1. Either have the current comic up in full size, or provide links to the most current comic and Ask Axe Cop; trying to do both doesn’t work so well.

2. It won’t be long before having to scroll through every comic to get to the current one is going to become cumbersome.  If you really want to list every comic on the front page and make it scrollable, and there’s nothing wrong with that, I’d really like the most recent listed first instead of last.  The more common solution is to link to the most current comic and provide an index by name and/or date to retrieve back-issues.

3. The clutter issue.

So, I hear this is being worked on, but there’s no harm in putting in my opinion, right?

Next, on to the forums.  When the forum gets more traffic, it will become clear what kind of new categories we need.  I think these two are working well for themselves at the moment.  I could see adding a fan art section.

Thanks for lending an ear!
