I’m gonna put the obvious two first (at least the ones that I know of)

Dinosaur Comics by Ryan North

xkcd by Randall Munroe

Honestly, xkcd is a pretty terrible comic. Never really understood the appeal. Tries too hard to be “smart” and “nerdy”, falling flat on it’s face with a majority of it’s jokes.

I don’t think xkcd tries too hard. It’s just a web-comic for a different niche, that’s all. For science and maths geeks, I guess.

Kind of, but not really? I think that’s the best way to put it. I get the jokes and understand how he’s trying to make me laugh because hey, I could be considered just as much of a science and math geek as anybody that reads it regularly. But his work just generally isn’t funny. Sometimes he does manage to strike a little bit of gold, but it’s when he usually makes jokes outside of the “niche” the comic attempts to aim at.

This is an argument I’ve had way too many times, so I’d rather just leave it at that. Obviously people enjoy it so I can’t really put it down for appealing to an audience. I just never understood what that appeal was. It’s just so… stale.

I get your point. I guess we have different tastes in web-comic humour.

By the way, another two:

Someone already posted Nedroid, so I’ll suggest Daisy Owl

http://www.daisyowl.com/

In a similar crazy vein to Axe Cop, there’s The Adventures of Dr McNinja

http://drmcninja.com/

And everyone knows Achewood, right? You all know Achewood. Of course you do. I’ll just leave this here.

I concur with many of the posts in this thread, and I’ll add Questionable Content, Perry Bible Fellowship, Overcompensating, and Dresden Codak to the mix.

Also, there will always be a special place in my heart for POKEY THE PENGUIN. In some ways, it’s the opposite of Axe Cop — it looks like it’s drawn by a 5-year-old, while the writing can be very deep at times (though usually surreal, absurd, or just silly). You need a very specific sense of humour to appreciate it, though. It regularly makes me laugh so hard I cry, whereas I rarely meet anyone else who gets it at all. Let’s see if anyone else here likes it…

Some friends created periodically do web comics.  Not as regularly as they used to because life is busier.  But regardless, they’re comics are pretty funny….Especially Catball and Clown-Girl!

Video game fans will probably enjoy Penny-arcade.
http://www.penny-arcade.com/

Fans of fantasy and RPGS will probably enjoy 8-bit theater, but be forewarned it’s near its end and the current page may contain spoilers.
http://www.nuklearpower.com/8-bit-theater/

Perry Bible Fellowship has a dark sense of humor and it already ended, but it’s still worth reading. Not recommended for younger readers, though.
