Royalties (The Songster page 24)

One page left, and one song left.

Parry and I are thinking of putting together a special highly limited edition cassette tape and full printed comic. If you would be interested in something like that, let us know.

Next week, the story shall end. I don’t have plans for more Axe Cop content at the moment. Thanks for following along with this story, it’s been a fun little experiment and working with Parry has been a treat.

Utimate Zodiac (Songster page 22)

I’m back! As I write this, my new son, Calvin, is screaming his brains out in the other room. He’s actually a pretty calm baby most of the time. He must know I’m trying to get back to work. Thanks for your patience while I took the month of August off.

Enjoy this gem from Parry Gripp. There is one small song left after this, but this is the last big one in the story, so savor it!

Big Ball of Disease (The Songster page 21)

When Malachai decided there was a giant ball of disease hidden inside the sun, I decided the best representation of that would be a little homage to Mad Balls, one of my favorite toys in the 80’s. I remember all the gross out 80’s toys with fondness. Garbage Pail Kids, My Pet Monster, Mad Balls… what else? I would like to start a definitive list in the comments. Oh yeah, GAK!

I’m excited about next week’s song and page. I’ve read some of Parry’s lyrics and they are hilarious. See you then!

Songster #7 – Origin of the Songster part 2

Hear the full song here.

I’m headed off on a trip to Oregon for about two weeks here, so I will be skipping a week after next week. If any of you want to send me a guest comic, I might be inclined to post it during that time. Email me if you are interested: ethan@axecop.com.

The Songster prints are here! These are hand screen printed, 16×20. I hand-detail each one. See the video below. Because I am doing work on every print, I am lowering the availability of these to 50. I have already sold a good amount but if you want yours, get them while they last!

If you are anywhere near the small town of Coos Bay, Oregon on the 16th of March, stop by the Egyptian Theater. This is my home town and I will be having Axe Cop Night, where I will do a little presentation about creating Axe Cop and showing 6-8 of my favorite episodes.

Huge thanks to Parry Gripp for making such sweet music for this project. I can’t wait until it is all done and we have the coolest comic/album ever.

Read next week’s page and see this one in super high resolution when you join me on Patreon. Here is some recent Patreon bonus content for $5-10/month:

Flip through the new book I made with the Make a Wish Foundation

Tutorial on drawing guns and other 3D objects using Sketchup

See the 13 page full color pitch bible for the show “Rocket Monster Super Club” optioned by Cartoon Network

Tutorial on drawing backgrounds and perspective using Sketchup and Manga Studio

Also, there is a private Facebook group where I check in every week, have a pipe and a chat about what’s been going on, answer questions and generally get to know you guys.

Try it for $5/month and see if you find it worth it. If you do a month and didn’t enjoy it, send me an email and I will refund your money.

Axe Cop in THE SONGSTER starts NOW! – Presented using Comusic Technology

The Songster begins!

Just wait, this is Axe Cop’s first musical. We’ve teamed up with Parry Gripp to make this comic reading experience audible as well. Every time a page with a song is posted, there will be a new Parry Gripp song posted with it. It won’t be on every page, but it should average out to every 2-3 pages.

Tonight at 7pm (pacific time) Parry and I will be on Facebook Live to talk about this comic, answer questions, preview a song and generally chat it up. I will also be drawing one person as an Axe Cop style hero or villain. We always have a lot of fun on our live broadcasts (usually Thursdays at 5pm but this week 7pm).

Also, Ask Axe Cop starts on Monday. If you are one of my Patreon members you have already read both, since all Axe Cop material posts to Patreon one week early for $5/month and up members. Join today and you can read the next page of this story right now.

Want a signed and numbered limited edition screen print? Want a coupon code for 25% off? Here you go! coupon code: SONGSTERRIFIC. This sale lasts only until the next page posts (one week)!

If you happen to be coming out of the woodwork, having caught wind that a new Axe Cop story is happening, consider checking out Bearmageddon, my other webcomic, and some of my recent blogs about the creative life over on EthanNicolle.com.

UNCHOPPED #1: Wexter’s Dad

Hey there. Long time no Axe Cop.

As you can imagine, I have a ton of unused material from old notes I took in the days when we were making Axe Cop regularly. It takes about 10 minutes to say this stuff, but months to draw, so I had to “chop” some thing. But a lot of it I still love and I always wanted to do some kind of project where I at least share it in snippets, do some sketches , and get it out there, even if it doesn’t ever make into a complete story.

So, here is the first installment. About Wexter’s dad. I got out the old notes and did a few sketches. This is his introduction. We wrote a whole mission that Wexter and his dad go on together, which I will release in installments because there is a lot of great stuff in it.

I hope to release these weekly, but we’ll see. Thanks for keeping up with Axe Cop!

Ask Axe Cop #88 – Our Noble Sun

Howdy folks,
Ethan’s out on travel for the next little while, so he asked Tom and myself to mess the place up a bitkeep things up and running while he’s out. We’ll be responsible adults*, promise.

I’m sure you all have already seen the first page from Tom’s set of guest strips. I’ve gotten to read ahead and I think you guys are going to love this series. After the decidedly “adult” turns (love, sacrifice, romance, etc.) that the “Axe Cop Gets Married” storyline took, “Revenge on Rainbow Girl” seems to be a return to levels of silliness and straight out Kid Logic(tm). We’ll see if Malachai is open to making it canon, but I certainly hope so. Oh, and spoilers: Snape kills Gandalf! Also, Donnie Darko is actually Finkel and Einhorn.

But enough frippery! Down to business.

This Saturday’s Axe Cop on Fox ADHD features an all-new character, invented purely for the show: Turkey Turkey. He’s definitely a Bad Guy Who Is Up To No Good. Ethan thought you all might enjoy a few of the concept sketches before you get to watch him in motion at 11pm Eastern** on Fox.

TurkeyTurkey

Click to embiggen! Then watch on Saturday night, and tell your friends to beware of Turkey Turkey!

PS: Hot Topic is doing a test run on sales of Axe Cop t-shirts featuring Wexter. Now, I’m not saying that if sales are good enough, they’ll order more and soon kids the world over will be wearing the shirts with nary a hint of irony and that massive royalties will come streaming in, thus ensuring that Axe Cop will turn into a franchise that is eventually written by Ethan’s great-great-grandchildren, amusing countless generations of kids and adults and bringing about world peace***, no sir. But Hot Topic will order more shirts, so tell your friends to buy them. Also, they’re selling t-shirts whereon Axe Cop looks like Rosie the Riveter. I think you know what to do.

* As responsible as two adults given the reins to a website dedicated to posting comic strips invented by children can be, that is.

** More like 11:38PM Eastern. Stupid football/local news.

*** World peace or new uniforms? Asked and answered.
