Criminal Past

Posted in Blog

Friends!! i apologize that this posted late, I have honestly been working on it all day amidst many, many interruptions.  That's just life right now with all the wedding planning and everything else going on.  Like this Kickstarter project for the Axe Cop Documentary:

Some people seem to think that this is my movie that I am making about myself.  This is a movie that I am in, and i am supporting, but it is not mine.  I did not decide to start making it.  That was all the choice of the film maker.  I give it my full support and I think that is is a cool story, as well as an interesting look at family, imagination and comics as well as the story of Axe Cop.  I'm excited for it.  Please check it out.  I talked them into adding options for a Blu-Ray since it launched, so if you were looking for something like that, it is now there.  To be a backer, go to the Kickstarter page and make your pledge!

Also, I posted both of these last week, but it was not on an update day and I want to make sure everyon sees them. This is the preview for the new animated comics that will be released by Rug Burn.  They involve some of the original cast of the motion comics and are being produced in mass quantities, so rather than getting one new episode every 4 to 6 months, you will be getting a new episode every week!  It's going to be so awesome.  There will be a little bit of new art in these, but they will be straight from the comics.  Unlike the FOX show, which will be rewritten versions based on stories, these animated comics will be the comics you have read brought to life. If you like what you see, please subscribe to Rugburn and stay tuned for more!

Please share these links!  The success of good stuff on the internet is determined by those who choose to click the “share” button.  Thanks in advance!

Also, I really liked today's episode.  It was pretty complex.  I love the body part mining aliens.  So creepy and weird, but in a place called “Badville” it makes perfect sense.  Also, I love Officer Lightning and Sergeant McQueen.  I think I subconciously based Officer Lightning on Andy Wainwright from Hot Fuzz and Sergeant McQueen on Hank from Breaking Bad.  I really hope we get to see more of those characters, and if there is ever an Axe Cop movie, we already have some casting covered.

Well, I need to sleep a little and then get the new Bearmagedon page posted as well.  Thanks for reading!

Documentary and Rug Burn Animated Comics!

Posted in Blog

Two big pieces of news today!  First, the Axe Cop Documentary Kickstarter has launched.  This video is great and this movie is going to be so good!

To be a backer, go to the Kickstarter page and make your pledge!

And, Rugburn, the new animation channel on YouTube is going to be doing weekly animated versions of the Axe Cop comics.  It's going to be awesome!  This is not the TV show, this is animated renditions of the comics themselves, with some of the original voice actors from the first motion comics.  They will be releasing them weekly and putting motion to something like the first 20 comics!  Here is the first teaser trailer!

Exciting stuff!  I'll keep you posted as more updates come about.

Horn Limitations

Posted in Blog

I know that it is possible the rules and boundaries set in this episode of Ask Axe Cop have been broken in the past.  I'm not sure how Axe Cop's universe works, but it is possible that the god of that universe changes his mind sometimes and changes things around now and then to keep things interesting. I think we all knew that, for Axe Cop's story to remain interesting the unicorn horns needed to have some limits.  I was actually surprised Malachai wanted to give the horns limits.  I think it is a sign that he is growing up that he realized it is good to set boundaries on things.

Anybody catch me on Carson Daly last week?  Keep an eye on NBC, they should post the video soon.

And here is another friendly reminder to take advantage of my annual  commission sale!  This could be my last one if the TV show has a super-busyfing effect on my life.  It is true I often do these sales out of financial desperation and this year is no different.  Your order will arrive prior to Christmas so it's a great gift to give someone for the holidays.  Thanks in advance to those who order one, and big thanks to those who already have!  Sale ends November 19th!

Check out the gallery of some of last year's favorites.

That's all for now.  I am working on the next Axe Cop story.  I am working on it while I work on wedding planning, and the two are actually going to tie together.  More on that later.  Thanks for reading!

The Secret SECRET Basement

Posted in Blog

Alright, another Ask Axe Cop!  These things can end up being more work than I bargained for because I end up trying to cram as much of Malachai's answer on the page as I can and I realize later I was drawing really small.  When you draw digital you can zoom in, and it's easy to get carried away with detail and not realize it.

This particular episode actually came out of one of the questions thr teamof writers on the Axe Cop TV show had for Malachai.  Throughout the process of writing the episodes, we would run into questions for Malachai. Sometimes I would call him right there and put him on speaker, and other times i would wait and call him that evening and write down the answers.  This was an answer I liked a lot, though we never ended up using it in the show.  I think they just wanted a town name, something like Axeville.  Not this long answer that totally complicates the Axe Cop universe and conflicts with some of Axe Cop's past descriptions of his living situation.  For those of you who are troubled by these conflicts, I'd say it is likely that what we were told was a typical day for Axe Cop is still mostly true, except it was probably that very living situation that led to the creation of secret town.  Axe Cop just got sick of fixing the windows and only sleeping for two minutes every night.  In fact I am pretty sure Axe Cop still only sleeps two minutes.  He does have to work the always shift.

Another tidbit, I will be on the Carson Daly show tomorrow night, November 7th.

And here is a friendly reminder, after you vote, if you are American, don't forget to take advantage of my  commission sale!

Check out the gallery of some of last year's favorites.

The sale ends on November 18th, so please pur your order in before that.  I'm going to be tossing some extra goodies in with the higher paying orders.  I have some comics I could sign, stickers, stuff like that.

Alright, well, enjoy the rest of your day, I'm sure that you, like me, are excited for your Facebook feed to not be all about the election.

Commision Sale 3!

Posted in Blog

What a week!  If you read the last blog, you saw the new animated sample of the Axe Cop animated series, due to air on FOX Saturday nights next summer!  I also mentioned I just got engaged.  My life is kind of amazing right now.  However, despite all this success, life is expensive and Christmas is right around the corner (and so is a wedding!) so I am once again having a commission sale!

Please take this opportunity to buy some original art from me!  I do it all in one big art frenzy and it usually ends up being some of my best original art. Also, this is the last time I will do one of these sales before the TV show comes out.  There is a chance things will be so hectic by next year I won't have time to do this, so if you want a piece of Axe Cop art, now is the time!  I am pretty flexible about requests and I think the only charcater I would refuse to draw for you would be Every Man from President of the World #3, that is, unless you paid me a million dollars.  Check out the gallery of some of last year's favorites.

Today's episode of Ask Axe Cop features owls.  They are a pain to draw and I admit I used a lot of photo reference.  I like this episode and I look forward to seeing the owls help Axe Cop on a night mission someday.  I don't look forward to drawing it, but I look forward to it regardless.

I'm going to post that video one more time for good measure.  Please share the heck out of it!

Axe Cop Animated!

Posted in Blog

It's been pretty awesome to be me lately.  Last week I proposed to the love of my life and she agreed to be my future wife!  Then just a few days later, for the first time in my life, I get to see my own work animated.  FOX/ADHD has released this special clip from the Axe Cop animated series as a teaser for the coming series next summer!

This video is almost verbatim the original Ask Axe Cop #47.  I always dreamed that one day I'd see my work animated, and now that the day is here it's totally overshadowed by the lady in my life.  Life just seems to be a little good right now.

New Ask Axe Cop tomorrow!  It involves Axe Cop and his relationship with owls.

Under the Sea

Posted in Blog

I'm kind of amazed this is the first time we have really explored the ocean in the Axe Cop Universe.  We have been to the beach many times, but not in the deep blue sea.  I'm interested to find out more about the heroes and bad guys that live way out there in the ocean.

If you live in or near Nashville, come see me at GMX this weekend.  Fair warning, I probably will not be there on Sunday, so come see me Friday or Saturday!

Ol’ Uncle Axe

Posted in Blog

Yes, Uncle Axe.  I hope we see more of this character.  I know he is fictional, even within the Axe Cop universe, but Axe Cop could easily wish upon a unicorn horn that he be made real and join his team.  It would be special to see Axey and his childhopod hero out fighting crimes together.

Well, I forgot to post this, but I am going to be in Nashville at GMX at the end of this month, so if you live out there, come see me, buy some comics and harass me at panels!

That Hat

The time has come for one of the more significant revelations about Axe Cop to be made.  Please make sure to read Ask Axe cop #73 (today's installment) before you read this blog.  Axe Cop is bald.  It's true.  I think it's rare for a hero of Axey's fame to be bald, but he gets away with it because he hides it.  Axe Cop fights a lot of battles, but sometimes he loses his battle with his own self confidence when it comes to that bald head.

Well, my plan is to release Ask Axe Cop questions weekly until we reach 100, so if you have burning questions, now is the time to send them in (please use the form on this page).

Also, the official Axe Cop costume is out now and can purchased in various stores and right here online.

Thanks for keeping up with the Cop.  See you next week.

That’s a Wrap!

Posted in Blog

Alright, it took a while, but the tale of the Dogs has been told.  Thanks for sticking with us!

Malachai just returned home from spending two weeks with me.  We did a lot of writing together.  Started some new stories up, worked on a bunch of Ask Axe Cop questions, sold books and did panels at Rose City Comic Con in Portland, OR, Comikaze Expo in Los Angeles, did a panel at Riot LA, did a couple interviews, played mini golf, went to Legoland, saw a magic show, spent $95 at the dollar store buying writing props… and we did homework because he took two weeks off of school to work on Axe Cop.

So what's next?  It's time to dive back into Ask Axe Cop.  I want to reach my goal of at least completing 100 of those things.  Who knows, we may do many more, but I want to make the 100 question goal.  So, since I just finished a story I am going to take one week off, then jump into weekly Ask Axe Cop comics.

On another note, not that he needs my help, but my good friend Doug TenNapel is doing a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to do a 250 page hardcover sketchbook project.  He's already surpassed his goal but if this looks cool to you, you should back it!  This further inspires me to try to to do my own Kickstarter project some day soon.
